About

Hi. My Name is Luke Richards and I live in Milton Keynes in the UK. I am a PHP developer for Emailcenter UK. I work with James Dempster on the core business for the company, Maxemail. The product is built on PHP and the Zend Framework with an ExtJs frontend.

I have been into PHP development for the past 8 years. I have always been interested in the application of design patterns. Recently I have started studying Domain Driven Design. I have been reading the book “Domain Driven Design” (ISBN: 0321125215) by Eric Evans. I am also very interested in Test Driven Development and the principles and subjects surrounding it.

I created this blog because I was inspired by Cal Evans blog post about the PHP community. I have been thinking along time about contributing back to the community in some form or another. I signed up to contribute to the Zend Framework project for that very reason. Unfortunately, as with a lot of these things, other commitements got in the way. I have made small contributions to the project but not nearly as much as I’d like.

My aim is to regularly write up about a project I am working on. I hope that each series will outline various principles about the development life cycle like design, testing, implementation etc. As I go a along I will use any feedback I receive about a post I’ve made so that it evolves. As the series progresses both myself and the reader are learning with the end result being openly available. I would like to achieve something similar to Brandon Savages ‘Peer Review’ series.

I’m hoping that this blog becomes a useful resource to someone out there.
